The man who grew young

Think about this phenomena. Think about a world where this could happen. This is something that is stuck in my mind for quite some time now. This is a story about Adam, a story for all of us, a reminder for many of us and a message for some of us. Adam was born in South Park, Colorado so to say. However, he was born as an 60-65 year, old looking, hunch back guy. Everyone was in a dismay as they saw him, including his parents. But god had some unique plans for this baby. As years passed by people started noticing that this new born was living a unique phenomena. This baby was growing younger as he grew old. As years passed by this kid turned into a fine looking man and he started going to school. As years passed along he started playing with the kids in the nearby locality and he started attending the elementary school. Every year as he celebrated his birthday lil Adam would come to his mother and say "Hey mom, I am growing younger and I grew one year younger today, I am afraid of ...

Series of unfortunate events!!

Image
Coming to US for higher studies was not a good idea. This is what comes to my mind when my friends sitting in India say "You are don, doing MS and all in US". I get to this conclusion looking at the series of unfortunate events that started happening the moment I decided I wanted to go, till date. The events keep on piling up and never promise to cease. Year 2007 was not the best year I ever had, unfortunately twas the worst year of my life. A series of unfortunate events with friends and family were not enough when another day in 2007 walked along with a not so pleasant news of self realization. The only good thing I felt happened, was the visa grant and me coming over here. The self realization was not good enough when I lost my love. Yes, its pretty much open. I lost her. I traveled here hoping to make great new friends. As one of my friends wrote on his Gmail status message, "Welcome to USA, the land of opportunities and the land of ultimate loneliness", it was ...

When death comes....

Image
The other day I was walking with a friend of mine from the university back to my house. As I was walking my friend was talking about how life has been unfair to him. Amidst all this I was thinking about something else. How does someone know when he is supposed to die. The moment I was thinking this, I happened to look down and I saw a lil bug on the ground. The moment I saw it I my brain sent a signal to my foot and I don't know why, but in that split second, instead of keeping my foot flat on the ground and over that bug, my foot landed on the outer sides of it and the bug happily walked away. A couple of days later the same incidence was repeated. One of my colleagues walked over a bunch of black ants and the moment I saw that whole bunch, I jumped over them. These events forced me to think as to when does death come. Who decides when one dies. The bug and some of the ants were destined to die had it not been for me to see them. It then struck me, they were not supposed to die th...

Pursuit of Happyness!!

The pursuit for happiness has been the final goal for all humans. Its something every man looks forward to at the end of each day. That's the reason why, every single day we go out there to earn money, try to be successful, so that we can stay happy. Speaking of success, I believe there are two types of people in this world, one who are born with a silver spoon, who find success one way or the other. The second category of people (I consider myself from this cult) are the ones who struggle almost whole of their lives to see a small ray of success shine upon them. I have never been successful at anything in my life. Some might say this is an understatement. For those people I would like to re frame the sentence. "I have had my small moments of happyness, which I have accepted as success." I once thought I was successful at sports, although I did pretty good at sports there came a " period " in my career. I never thought of myself as a brilliant kid at studies coz...

One of those days!!

Image
I was really confused when I first came up with this quote. I put it on Orkut on my profile and I received many scraps from my friends asking me what that meant. I was clueless and did not know what it meant. So I asked my roomies the following question, "What comes to your mind when I say one of those days? " and here is the answer that I got. One said, the times when we had submissions and assignments for our engineering semesters. The other said, the most happy and joyful days of my life. I am still not sure if that is a generic answer and represents everyone or the answer would be relative. For me one of those days means the times I miss being myself. The times when I was what I wanted to be, times I made my mom dad proud, times when I planned things ahead with my brother and many more things. One of those days when I felt I had it all in me to achieve what I wanted to. I guess its hard to describe in words what this phrase means to me. Thinking about it virtually drives ...

What are friends for?

This has been a typical tag line for a lot of people over the period of time. I've heard a lot of people say this to their friends, however the reasons being different. Today as I write this I dwell to find out the reasons why people would use this line. Some recent events which include some recent conversations with my friends have made me think a lot as to when to use this line. My understanding till now was to use this when you have helped a friend and your friend tells you "Hey buddy thanks for the favor man!!" and then you come up with this line; "Hey dude, afterall what are friends for". However, this understanding now stands questioned by a certain set of events. This post goes out to all my friends and blogger colleagues :) and I ask for their comments in the form of an answer to one question; "Would you afford to loose a group of friends for another friend?". Let me elaborate a bit before people start feeling dizzy after reading the shit I wro...

Human Capabilities Amaze Me!!

The human mind has always impressed me with all its capacities to calculate faster and think faster and stuff like that. The other day I came accross a gentleman, lets call him Mr. Harish. Mr. Harish is a distant relative of mine and comes accross to be a very jovial and calm man in his late 60's. As we were chit chatting on my plan for higher studies we started talking about what he had planned and how he went about with his life plan. The next few hours unravelled in front of me the most bizarre career and also I must say most adventurous one. Take a listen!! I would like to jot down here some parts of his narration in first person to know the effect :-). "My father was not wealthy and did not have enough funds to raise all his children. My father expired when I was in 9th standard. The family was in shackles but my eldest brother (who was a doctor himself) started practicing and raised all his younger brothers, sent them to schools and made sure they dint fall short of any...

The burning memories

The morning started with a bad news as the maid at our place came in rushing, as if considering herself a news reporter from "Aaj Tak" or "Zee News" to be the first one to bring the breaking news to the audience. She anounced that a huge fire had destroyed almost 40 hutsin a nearby locality. This came to me as a news to which I reacted in my mind "Big deal happens every other day" and left it where it was. As I got out of my building on my way to office, I observed a large croud gathered right in front of our building. Curious as to what was the "major attraction", I parked my bike alongside the road and crossed over. The sight that lay in front of me made me go week in my knees. At that moment it occured to me "It certainly is a big deal, as it doesn't happen every other day with these people". It was a case of a fire that had ripped through 40 huts prepared by the construction workers working in an alongside building, making them ...

I hope to buy a balloon.....

The other day I was sitting in the open area in front of Pyramids, S.B. Road. It's a nice place to be in the evening with the brightly lit Pyramids Megastore in the front and the fountains besides spraying water on your face as the breeze carries them to you. It's a nice place to be after a hectic n frustrating day at work. Everything seemed perfect when I saw this little girl, "Gudiya", that's what I would like to call her. She was a very pretty girl of age 11 or 12 with a bunch of balloons in her hands. She was walking over to each person sitting around and asking if they would like to purchase a balloon from her. Everyone she went to, said no to purchase a balloon. As I was expecting, she came to me too; the moment she stood in front of me, my face lit up with a warm smile. Noticing this she thrust a balloon in my hand. She was smiling at me too when I purchased that balloon from her. As she happily hopped away to other people I looked at her and wondered how m...

Courage could be....

As I have always struggled to understand what "Courage" exactly meant, I have heard different definitions of this quality. One said it means being fearless while one more said being confident of what you do. I had an opprtunity recently to see Courage personified as I was taking a leisure trip to Wai - Mahabaleshwar during the Diwali vacation. Wai a very small village surrounded by the sahyadri mountains is a perfect place to find peace and tranquility. One fine morning as I was on my way to Dhon dam, a major attraction in this village, I noticed an old hunch back lady who would be around 60 odd years old taking two huge buffaloes for grazing. As I passed her this sight did not make any impact on me and I glanced away looking at the dam approach. But that scene kept flashing at the back of my mind. As I pondered on it realization dawned upon me and i understood the importance of what I had seen. The old lady inspite of being challenged by her age and her day by day reducing s...

Memories Remain.....

I noticed something the other day as I was standing in the balcony at my work place. It was the most precious and a fun and frolic time from the perspective of the kids of a small time school; The " LUNCH BREAK ". Memories came gushing back as a I recalled my school days. The lunch break that we had was a blessing in disguise, a most awaited time of the entire day. It was more of a "Fun Break" rather than a "Lunch Break" for me and all other kids. Our mission for the everyday lunch break would be to make the most of it. Given the 30 minutes of the lunch break we would try to finish the lunch within 10 minutes so that we could get rest of the time to play. It is a moment to remember as all my friends and me used to sit down and lay out in front of us a plethora of food varieties. Once food was done everyone was ready for their favorite game "Cricket". However this one did not involve a bat and a ball, rather something better :-) a writing pad and ...
